IPART has roles relating to energy set out in the following legislation:

- Electricity Infrastructure Investment Act 2020
- National Energy Retail Law (NSW) No 37a of 2012
IPART also administers the NSW Energy Savings Scheme and the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS)
Electricity Register of access agreements
The IPART Act requires NSW government agencies to notify the Tribunal when they enter into an agreement to provide access to their public infrastructure.
