IPART held a public hearing on Monday 18 November 2024 on Hunter Water’s proposed water prices from 1 July 2025 

We are currently reviewing the maximum prices Hunter Water can charge for water and water-related services. 

On Friday 1 November 2024, we published Hunter Water’s pricing proposal for prices to apply from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2030 and released an Issues Paper that summarises the key issues. We are inviting the community to provide feedback and comments on the proposal and key issues we have identified by making a submission via our website by 9 December 2024.

On Monday 18 November 2024, we held an online public hearing as part of our consultation process for the review. The public hearing provided an opportunity for the public and community to have their say on Hunter Water’s pricing proposal and respond to our Issues Paper, allowing participants to provide comments and ask questions directly to Hunter Water and to IPART.

The online public hearing had 2 sessions:

  • Session 1: Hunter Water’s presentation followed by comments and questions
  • Session 2: IPART’s presentation followed by comments and questions.

There were 45 people (other than IPART and Hunter Water-related staff) that attended this hearing. Participants raised issues including the affordability of the proposed price increases for different customers and current cost-of-living pressures, potential for annual assessments of prices to consider CPI changes, dividends to the State Government, funding ageing assets and infrastructure, impacts of increased water usage charges on water use, the importance of spending on water infrastructure and the transparency of spending.

We are grateful to everyone who attended our public hearing and shared their views with the Tribunal. 

We have listened to the community’s views and will consider all feedback and comments when we make our draft decisions and recommendations for our Draft Report, to be released in March 2025. Customers and the community will have a further opportunity to provide feedback and comments after we release our Draft Report.
