Feedback sought on draft prices Valuer General can charge local councils.
The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal is inviting feedback on our draft maximum prices for land valuation services provided by the Valuer General to local councils, effective from 1 July 2025.
Tribunal member Sharon Henrick said the Valuer General’s land valuations are used by councils for calculating rates for ratepayers.
“We’re seeking feedback on the draft decisions, recommendations, prices and questions presented in our Draft Report,” Ms Henrick said.
“We have determined a single annual draft price of $7.86 for each valuation provided to councils, which is lower than the prices proposed by the Valuer General for land valuation services.”
The Valuer General proposed to increase prices between 21% and 38% due to increases in their land valuations service costs. The Valuer General's proposal explains a new approach where around half of the valuations and objections would be handled directly by Value NSW, instead of being conducted by external contractors.
IPART has assessed the efficient cost of providing land valuation services to be 16% lower than those proposed by the Valuer General. The draft decision would result in cost reductions for all councils compared to the Valuer General’s proposed prices.
IPART’s Draft Report is available from the website.
Stakeholders can also attend a public hearing on 15 April 2025 with submissions to the draft report closing on 4 May 2025.
