Regional and country taxi passengers have just two weeks left to have their say about taxi services in local communities.
The NSW Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) wants to know how important taxi services are to local people, how easy taxis are to catch, whether they are affordable, and what alternative transport choices are available.
The survey results will be used to help IPART recommend future taxi fares in different regional and country areas.
IPART Chairman Dr Peter Boxall said it is clear from the response so far that taxis play an important role in regional areas.
“Where there are few public transport options, taxis can be the only way people can reach the shops, medical appointments or other engagements,” Dr Boxall said.
“We need to understand whether the current services and fares are meeting these communities’ needs, or if changes should be made, and community input is vital.”
The survey has been completed.
In addition to seeking passenger views, IPART is also surveying taxis drivers and operators about the costs of operating a taxi.
The survey is open for comment until 18 November. Further information on IPART’s review is available at IPART’s website. A draft report will be released for further comment in April.
