IPART is conducting a review of taxi fares for NSW and will be making recommendations to the Minister for Transport on the taxi fares to apply from July 2010. In conducting the review we are required to consider a number of factors, including the costs of providing taxi services, the protection of consumers from abuse of monopoly power and the social impact of fare changes. As part of the review we will measure the change in the cost of providing taxi services using an index of taxi costs, which includes costs like LPG, repairs and maintenance and network fees. We will also consider whether a flat fare between the Sydney CBD and Sydney Airport should be introduced.
