We reviewed maximum fares for rural and regional bus fares to apply between 1 January 2013 and 31 December 2017. The determination applies to all areas of NSW other than the Sydney metropolitan and outer metropolitan regions (Blue Mountains, Hunter, Newcastle and Wollongong). We decided that for each year of the determination period, fare increases can be set equal to the change in costs for the previous year. However, bus operators may charge below the maximum fares that we determine.

IPART today released its final report and determination on rural and regional bus fares. From 1 January 2013, maximum fares for country town and rural bus services will rise on average by 3.3%.
Sets out our final determination of maximum fares for rural and regional bus services. This determination will apply for 5 years from January 2013.
We have made a determination to apply for 5 years with fares to be updated annually based on the change in costs measured by a bus industry cost index.
