This report presents our findings about the key household characteristics and uses for energy and water that drive residential electricity, gas and water consumption. Our findings are based on regression analysis of IPART’s 2010 and 2008 household survey data. We specified 2 types of regression model. The first type is a ‘characteristics’ model, to identify the relationship between consumption and household characteristics. The second type is a ‘uses’ model, to identify the relationship between consumption and what energy and water are used for. We used the regression results from the second type of model (‘uses’) to develop the Consumption Comparator.
Appendices C to G provide the detailed regression results from our analysis of the key household characteristics and uses for energy and water that drive residential consumption. Appendix H provides details about the external technical data that we used to test the size of some of our regression coefficients.
