The Tribunal has now completed its review of the regulation and licensing of air services operators in New South Wales. Since the release of the Interim Report in February 1997, one key change has been made to the Tribunal’s recommendations for the deregulation of intrastate services. Responding to views presented by the airlines, the Tribunal has removed the service notification process suggested in the Interim Report. This is not expected to impact adversely on consumers and industries reliant on air services. Air service operators will still ‘notify’ the market in regard to the services offered in the deregulated market by publishing route schedules and developing packages with tourism bodies. The timing of this process will allow adequate lead time for the introduction of deregulation (see section 7.2.2 for a more detailed discussion).
