Out-of-home care (OOHC) is provided to children or young people who cannot live with their own families. In NSW, it is provided by the Department of Communities and Justice, as well as by non-government providers including Aboriginal community-controlled organisations.
IPART is currently reviewing the cost of delivering OOHC and the pricing arrangements with the non-government providers who deliver care under contract with the NSW Government. We are also looking at the allowance foster carers, relatives and kinship carers receive to meet the costs of providing care and support to children and young people.
We released an Interim Report in September covering some of the key issues within the OOHC system and setting out our preliminary findings, on which we sought feedback. The non-confidential submissions we received are published here.
We held a public hearing in October, the full transcript, summary of presentations and presentation slides from the hearing are now available. We are continuing to engage with stakeholders as we work towards our Draft Report in February 2025.
