The NSW Government has today released IPART’s Final Report on the performance and competitiveness of the retail electricity market in NSW for residential and small business customers for the period 1 July 2014 to 30 June 2015.
Our finding is that competition for residential and small business customers in the NSW retail electricity market is working effectively, and that a detailed review of retail prices and profit margins is not necessary. However, there are still opportunities to make the market work better for customers. These findings are consistent with our Draft Report released in July this year.
This is the first annual review we have undertaken in our role as Market Monitor since retail price regulation was removed in NSW on 1 July 2014. More information on our findings and recommendation is provided in our Final Report.
