In keeping with commitments made in 1994 by the Council of Australian Governments (CoAG), the NSW Government is introducing competition into the supply of natural gas. Reforms have paved the way for suppliers1 of gas which are not reticulators2 to enter the NSW gas market. This has occurred through the development of a third party access regime for reticulation systems. Once suppliers have third party access to pipeline networks, they are able to access existing reticulation systems and in so doing, compete for customers.
