Establishing the terms and conditions for competing suppliers to access the network infrastructure is a key step towards competition. Significant components of the electricity and gas industries – such as the gas distribution pipelines – will remain a monopoly in large part. However, as many aspects as possible are being opened to competition. The release of this Determination and varied Access Undertaking, in conjunction with the gazettal of an Access Date by the Minister for Energy, will establish access to AGL’s gas distribution networks in NSW. The Tribunal has recommended that August 1, 1997 be declared as the Access Date.
