These Acts establish and set out the rights and obligations of the major public water utilities in NSW.

IPART’s key functions under these Acts are to:

  1. periodically review and recommend to the responsible Minister the terms on which the public water utilities’ operating licences should be granted; and
  2. monitor and enforce the public water utilities’ compliance with their licences, including monitoring and reporting compliance to the responsible Minister, and conducting operational audits.

The IPART Act also requires us to review and determine the maximum prices that these public water utilities can charge for bulk and retail water.

For more information on IPART’s role in relation to water utilities, see Water.
