Under the Passenger Transport Act 2014, IPART may be tasked with conducting reviews and reporting to the Minister on appropriate maximum fares.
As a result of a referral under this Act, IPART investigates, determines and makes recommendations to the Minister for Transport and Roads on appropriate maximum fares that can be charged for:
- Opal train, ferry, and light rail services;
- Certain rural and regional bus services;
- Certain private ferry services.
For more information on IPART’s role in transport pricing, see Transport.
