(Ref 01/452)
(Sydney Morning Herald, Thursday 16 August 2001)

The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal regulates electricity network charges under the National Electricity Code.  The Code requires that the Tribunal give two year's notice of any change in the form of regulation.  The Tribunal is considering whether it should change the form of economic regulation.

The Tribunal has released a Discussion Paper to assist stakeholders in making submissions.  Submissions must be received no later than 21 September.  The Tribunal will hold a public forum during November and further information on this will be advertised closer to the date.  The Tribunal intends to release a draft report in February 2002.

A copy of the Discussion Paper can be obtained from the Tribunals website www.ipart.nsw.gov.au or by contacting Clive Lackey on (02) 9290 8478.  For other inquiries please contact Michael Seery on (02) 9290 8421.
