IPART monitors licence compliance by various means, including:
- Periodic reporting
- Compliance audits
- Energy and Water Ombudsman (EWON) complaints
- Industry complaints
- Media reports
We have developed a policy to provide guidance on:
- how IPART will investigate compliance information
- procedures to be followed before enforcement action is taken
- factors IPART may consider when deciding if enforcement action should be taken
- what form any enforcement action may take.
See the Compliance and Enforcement Policy
IPART will follow the procedures outlined in this policy when investigating compliance matters and when considering enforcement action. We may depart from these procedures to resolve a compliance matter by means other than enforcement.
Memorandum of Understanding
IPART and EWON entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in July 2005 to avoid duplication of effort and achieve a consistent approach on common issues. We updated the MOU in 2017 to reflect IPART's changed energy licensing regulatory responsibilities.
